How to get Promoted

How to get Promoted

-Write down efficiencies or improvements that could be made in your role. Ask the people you work with what their pain points are, note what repetitive work you do or what takes you the longest, and what you like least about your role. Then try to develop process improvements, automation, or sometimes just helping someone else by doing your job differently or helping them with an improvement.

-Understand and respect perception; even if you come in early everyday but never stay late some may assume that you don’t work hard, the way you dress and present yourself matters, who you are seen with outside of work, your attitude at all times, how you talk (do you come across as intelligent).

-Take the time and put in the effort to build healthy relationships across your Organization and even outside your Organization but in the same industry or a related role. Focus on being compassionate toward people and their problems–be kind. Keep your word and be honest about timelines.

-Accountability is key, take responsibility for everything that you are involved in and provide actual improvements that you could make as explanation for any errors.

-Be humble, understand that to be promoted you must be looked at as a leader and a good leader doesn’t talk down to others, is level headed, and is an exceptional communicator through all channels.

-Show, and demonstrate improvement, even if it’s something small such as more visually appealing presentation material. Get comfortable saying “I should’ve done X so moving forward I will ensure that I fit it in”.
